Keep it close. Leave no space for your opponent to move. My partner today was serious about this, and I’m inspired to concentrate on this in my upcoming training sessions. Stop worrying about those submissions. Start focusing on that control. Make it so your opponent is constantly uncomfortable. Keep the pressure on.
I couldn’t even stand in his guard, it was too hard. He revealed to me afterward that he made a deep grip in my collar, and every time I would try to stand he would put pressure on my hips with his legs and pull me down at the collar. I have to try it, will report back.
Otherwise class was pretty classic today. Osoto-gari, hip throws, guard training, key lock from mount, mount training. Good times. The only special thing about class tonight was that after warm-ups I spent the rest of class with my mouth guard in. I haven’t been training with my mouth guard, as I should have. Will continue to do that in the future. Got to build up that lung capacity.
After class I rolled for a short while with another student who is planning on competing at Grapplers Quest this Saturday. We helped each other out: he let me try some new moves, and I showed him some moves to tweak as well.
Weight after class: 186.8 lbs. Got to be careful, need to maintain the high 180’s.
